After the two-month break, Dominic Thiem has truly returned to the tennis circus. Immediately after his games at the Generali Austrian Pro Series, the third place in the world rankings now goes to Belgrade, where he opens the Adria Tour launched by Novak Djokovic. In his first group game, the Austrian meets Bosnian Damir Dzumhur - and goes into the race as a crystal-clear favorite.
First of all, Thiem and Dzumhur have met so far, in Acapulco in 2016, when Thiem was able to prevail in two contested sets. The world rankings in particular speak a clear language in this comparison: Thiem, now number three in the ATP charts, is over 100 places ahead of Dzumhur, who is ranked number 107.
His last appearance at the Generali Austrian Pro Series showed that it can be difficult for Dominic Thiem in this phase, even against players with significantly lower scores. The Lichtenwörther had to give up against an incredibly strong Sebastian Ofner.
The entire tournament is played in "Fast 4 mode" (with a tie break at 3: 3) and on three winning sets. The first two groups will play a final game on Sunday.
