Andy Murray has postponed the end of his career - indefinitely. But it is clear to him that he will not have a farewell like Roger Federer at the Laver Cup in London.

It was just before Sir Andy's: in 2019 he had more or less announced his retirement from tennis at the Australian Open, and in Australia a corresponding video had already been made with the hymns of praise from his colleagues. /

But Murray underwent such successful hip surgery that he was back on the pitch a few months later, and now? The Scot does not want to think about the end of his career. "Right now I'm not thinking about it," said Murray at the Laver Cup in London. Of course, it was mainly under the spectacle of Roger Federer's farewell, and in this respect it was also clear to Murray: "But I certainly don't deserve such a farewell as here," he said with a laugh.

"Roger deserved this night. Having the guys from outside there made it very special. He probably won't have a farewell match like that," Murray said.

He would probably announce when he would play his last tournament, "but I don't know when that will be". He still plays competitive tennis and feels physically good. He just has to finally turn the narrow defeats against the top players into victories, "it's that simple."

Murray back in top 50

Because although Murray was back on the court quickly after his surgery in 2019, the leap to the front again has not yet worked out. too many minor physical problems had repeatedly forced him to take breaks. And due to the poorer world ranking position, he had encountered strong opponents early on in tournaments.

Most recently, Murray, ranked No. 1 in the world in 2016 and 2017, has moved back into the top 50. He is currently ranked 46th.

He has planned his next appearance in Antwerp (from October 17th). Here he won in 2019.
