Jannik Sinner is in his fifth season finale in Antwerp.

The spectators at the European Open in Antwerp can look forward to a top-ranked final: With Jannik Sinner and Diego Schwartzmann, numbers one and two of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in the Belgian port city played through to the final. While the South Tyrolean was able to defeat South African Lloyd Harris, who were seeded seven, 6: 2, 6: 2, Schwartzmann prevailed no less impressively 6: 4, 6: 0 against the American Jenson Brooksby.

Sinner is already in his fifth final this season - he won the tournaments in Melbourne, Washington and Sofia, only the final at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami went 6: 7 against Poland's Hubert Hurkacz (4 ), Lost 4: 6. “The places here are very similar to those in Sofia, where I have already won the tournament twice. I love to play here, I think that I can move well here. I'm very happy with my performance today, ”said the Italian in an on-court interview after the game.

Premiere for Sinner vs. Schwartzman

In his match against the American youngster Brooksby, Schwartzman only had to fight against his opponent's resistance in set one. Up to the score of 4: 4, the 20-year-old was able to keep up with the South American, but then the thread broke completely. Brooksby gave up his service to 4: 5 deficit to zero and could not get through any of his three service games in set number two. Nevertheless, the semi-final participation from the qualification is another strong result for the young man from California.

Surprisingly, the head-to-head of the two final opponents is still 0-0. The world ranking neighbors (positions 13 and 14) have never met at the ATP Tour level. If Sinner can win the title, he would be on a par with Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev with four tournament successes in 2021. Only Casper Ruud was able to lift five trophies in the current season.
