From the very beginning, Zverev made it clear who the boss of the Pista Rafa Nadal in Barcelona was: The Hamburg-born player won Jarry's second service and then had no problems reserving the set. In the second round, he better kept up with Chilean, who had qualified for the main field. And even took the lead with his first break of the match at 6: 5. Although Zverev was able to fend off several breakballs, one even with an ace on the second serve. Jarry took advantage of the hour and made the set equalization 7-5.

In the decision, Zverev dug a pit with faulty play (and serves) from which it was difficult for him to fight his way out. Jarry took a 3-0 lead with a double break, Zverev initially gave four ways to quickly get one back. Set with the fifth to 1: 3. Now the German in second place pushed - finally. And managed to compensate.

Jarry now against Dimitrov or Verdasco

Zverev eased again briefly, Jarry took the lead again with a break. Of course, the prompt equalization to 4: 4 followed. The momentum was actually on the side of the favorite. Jarry, who had reached the final in Hamburg last year, still managed to make it 5: 5. And also for 6: 6. After 2:22 hours the tiebreak started. Zverev led 3-0 there, partly because Jarry made some grotesque mistakes. The Chilean won five points in a row. And made Zverev the next comeback offer at 5: 4. With a double fault. But Jarry took two points and left the field after 2:33 hours of play.

In the round of 16, Jarry will face the winner of the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Fernando Verdasco on Thursday. Zverev will continue in Munich from Monday. Mischa Zverev was also eliminated. Alexander's older brother had no chance against 37-year-old local hero David Ferrer in 3-6 and 1-6.
