The organizers of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Buenos Aires cannot be blamed for one thing: that they would not give their number one, defending champion Dominic Thiem, enough time to adjust to the conditions in the Argentine capital. Thiem has been practicing on-site for almost a week now, and the 25-year-old from Lichtenwörther will only play his individual against Maximilian Marterer on Thursday.

After all, with match practice on the side of Diego Schwartzman: After the two buddies at the start against the second-placed pair Marc Lopez and Pablo Cuevas won 6: 3 and 7: 5, Thiem and Schwartzman can start again on Wednesday. This time against Malek Jaziri and Roberto Carballes Baena (not before 5 p.m. local time).

Schwartzman and Thiem could also meet individually in the semi-finals, but the Argentine will be faced with last year's finalist Aljaz Bedene at the beginning. With Nicolas Jarry, Malek Jaziri and Dusan Lajovic, three of the eight seeders in Buenos Aires have already failed in round one.
