Dominic Thiem is a very easy-going young man. Thiem gets along well with most colleagues, with some very well. Like with his semi-final opponent from Buenos Aires, Diego Schwartzman. Although the two opponents are separated by one year of life experience, Thiem and Schwartzman have known each other since their youth. And now and then play doubles together, as is currently the case at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Buenos Aires.

There the Austrian and the Argentine are in the semi-finals, competing against Jaume Munar and Albert Ramos-Vinolas after completing their individual match. Not a chance, by the way.

Thiem increases

But first, not before 7:45 p.m. CET (in our live ticker), the fifth single game between Thiem and Schwartzman is due. The 25-year-old Lichtenwörther has the nose 3-1 in the lead, actually Thiem should have won the fourth and youngest game, in 2017 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal he awarded match balls. Thiem's quarter-final performance against Pablo Cuevas was remarkable, mainly because he was able to improve over the course of the match, while the Uruguayan man was unable to maintain his level from the first set.

Schwartzman asked Nadal

For Schwartzman there was still a shift in the shaft later. The local hero was allowed to play the last match of the evening in front of full ranks, it took him 76: 6 to 1 and 7: 5 against Ramos-Vinolas. The Argentinian, who is only 1.70 meters tall, is currently number 19 in the ATP world rankings, and his start to the season was not sparkling.

Schwartzman also has this in common with Dominic Thiem. With the success against Cuevas, the Lower Austrian made his annual balance positive for the first time, to 3-2 wins. And where, if not in Buenos Aires? Thiem competed in the Argentine capital in 2016 and 2018, and he left the tournament twice as the winner.

He will be warned anyway: After all, Diego Schwartzman was the only man in 2018 that Rafael Nadal was able to take a sentence off the French Open. And then lost the match under extremely unfortunate circumstances.
