Diego Schwartzman is confidently in the quarter-finals at the ATP event in Cologne

It could have been the dream quarter-finals: Denis Shapovalov against the Italian youngster Jannik Sinner. The young South Tyrolean did his job in Cologne in the afternoon with flying colors, but Shapovalov could not do the same as the 18-year-old. In three very different sets, Gilles Simon should finally prevail against the Canadian.

Immediately after Shapovalov's departure, another co-favorite went to Center Court, Diego Schwartzman should face the hosts Oscar Otte. The Argenitnier, who had advanced to the semi-finals at the French Open, showed no nakedness against the German and made it into the round of the last eight with a 6: 3 and 6: 2 success.

Struff fails at Nishioka

The second German player who played on Thursday, Jan-Lennard Struff, also failed in the round of 16. The Warsteiner was defeated by the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 7 (7). From a German point of view, only the top seeded Alexander Zverev is in the race in the Lanxess-Arena.
