The fact that Alexander Zverev wants to defend his title at the ATP Finals, the German made no secret of this goal when he left New York City after losing to Diego Schwartzman. Unsuspecting that a rather unexpected competitor could spit in his soup: namely Matteo Berrettini. He won two 250cc tournaments this year (in Budapest and Stuttgart), but much more important for the annual ranking and thus a place in the O2 arena is the entry into the semi-finals of the current US Open. There the Italian meets Rafael Nadal as a blatant outsider. Even in the event of a defeat, however, Berrettini will leave the USA with 2,160 ATP points.

And in the Race to London, she was able to pass Alexander Zverev (2,120) in ninth place. Just behind, by the way, each with 2,080 points by Gael Monfils and David Goffin. But it is interesting to look ahead: Roberto Bautista-Agut (2,350) and especially Kei Nishikori as seventh and eighth are still in the field of vision of the London aspirants.

Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Medvedev sure to be there

Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and more recently Daniil Medvedev are sure to be there. Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas only have to tremble theoretically.

Matteo Berrettini could, however, spare himself an exciting autumn - simply by winning his first major in Flushing Meadows. then the 23-year-old would automatically be qualified for the ATP final.
