Nothing came of it in the perfect group stage for Dominic Thiem: The Lightsworter, who was already semi-finalist of the ATP Finals 2019 before this match, lost to Matteo Berrettini 6: 7 (3) and 3: 6. Berrettini equaled 2: 2 in the head to head against Thiem.

Until the ninth game everything went as planned, none of the two players had problems with their own serve. Then, however, Thiem dropped his service to zero - one, two brainstorms from Berrettini were enough. The 23-year-old Roman could not close the set, however, made a few sloppy mistakes at 5: 4. A tiebreak had to bring the decision. Berrettini managed a mini-break, the next to 4-0. At 5: 1 the sides were changed. After 46 minutes, the Italian had secured the first act.

Final between Djokovic and Federer

Before his third match there had been health concerns with Dominic Thiem, the 26-year-old dragged a cold around with him, which was getting worse by the day. Accordingly, Thiem was not nearly as lively as in his first two appearances against Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The decision in the second set and in the match was ultimately in the sixth game in which Metteo Berrettini took the break for 4-2. This time around, Berrettini made no comeback: after 76 minutes of play time, the world ranking eighth brought his first match win at the ATP Finals sure over time.

In the last match of the group Björn Borg, there will be a real endgame on Thursday, starting at 9 pm (live on Sky and in our live ticker): Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will cross the clubs for the 49th time, the winner will move into the semi-finals. In the internal balance of the Serb leads with 26:22 victories.
