A clear announcement sounds different, but Alexander Zverev didn't talk about it: He was tired, finished, after a strenuous and successful season with five tournament victories, including the Olympic gold. And now: the vacation is within your grasp. But Zverev also made it clear in Turin: "I won't say that I only came here as a participant. I want to do well and win matches, that's clear."
And preferably the entire finals after all. Just like in 2018 - the man from Hamburg won the unofficial tennis world championship of the eight best players of the year with a double strike against Roger Federer in the semifinals and Novak Djokovic in the final.
Zverev did at least one last refresher and did nothing in the last few days, as he explained on Friday. The last time he went down a week ago on the match court in the semifinals in Paris against Daniil Medevedev - it was 2: 6, 2: 6. The short break may at least give him a claim to the last reserves, "that's why I'm a little fresher now than in Paris. I needed that."

Opponent Matteo Berrettini had a little more time out: He didn't even start in Paris, last served in Vienna, before that in Indian Wells, both times with moderate success. The Italian celebrated two tournament victories in 2021, but the greatest success was of course his first Grand Slam final, in Wimbledon.
In a direct comparison between Zverev and Berrettini , Zverev leads 3: 1 - however, three encounters took place on clay, only one on hard court, 2019 in Shanghai, Zverev won 6: 3, 6: 4 at the time.
