Dominic Thiem was of course perfectly clear that he would find out his semi-final opponent at the ATP Finals only in the evening, when the Austrian shortly after 16 clock local time entered the training court in the adjacent VIP complex. After all, Thiem now no longer has to prepare for a possible meeting with Daniil Medvedev - the Russian is no longer in the raffle after the success of Rafael Nadal against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Nadal comes only as a final opponent in question.

Medvedev could with a victory but ensure that Thiem on Saturday evening against Tsitsipas ran. Should Alexander Zverev succeed, it would go for the world ranking fifth from Lower Austria against his German buddy. For the first time since the French Open 2018, where Zverev slightly injured in three sets had no real chance.

Massu in Madrid at the Davis Cup

Thiem played again with brother Moritz the fatigue of the bones, under the guidance of father Wolfgang. Coach Nicolas Massu is expected to return to London tomorrow, Saturday. The Chilean team boss had to make a detour to Madrid for the captains meeting before the start of the Davis Cup final tournament. As a Zaungast in the easy change of striker showed double legend Julian Knowle, who has to do business in London.

And still under the impression of the performance of Roger Federer against Novak Djokovic of the previous evening. Knowle, a specialist in the formerly white sport, had certainly not expected a victory of the Maestro. Like most of the experts in London.

Thiem has a longer break

Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, put down the Maestro at the beginning of the tournament. He had already beaten slightly occupied, then defeated Djokovic and lost to Matteo Berrettini. The cold has subsided, the change of hotel together with brother Moritz has helped. The rest of the crew still resides in the original accommodation. The arrival by boat is for Austria's number one passé, but the core problem in terms of health remains unsolvable: The striking temperature differences in the individual rooms of the competition venue. Once steam sauna, after the next door Arctic cold.

What speaks for Thiem is the fact that he will have had one day longer break than his opponent. If it is Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek will certainly feel the nearly three hours of playtime against Nadal in the bones. Defending champion Zverev would have even less recovery time than Tsitsipas.
