Only to win in London - Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies

The experimentation at the Media Day of the double players is a different one than the one in the individual competition: Eight chair trips are formed, the 16 players qualified for the final are mainly answering the journalists who have traveled from the home country. And why not? The interest of the French reporters in the performance of the winners of the last two Grand Slam tournaments, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, is not particularly pronounced, with all due respect.

On the other hand, German-speaking countries are concentrating this year on Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz, and almost twelve months ago Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya had taken their place, albeit in different chair circles. For the two Germans, a sensational year is coming to an end - even if the Davis Cup final is still a big task.

The first German double

Krawietz and Mies have arrived. Not only at the ATP Finals, but also in the world class. Nicolas Mahut, for example, interrupts the small discussion with the question of whether Andreas Mies really makes sense of himself. The world of double players is a rather small one, even though, as in this season, there have been major tectonic shifts through happy partner changes. People know each other, they value each other. And of course, the Cologne Mies Sinnstiftendes had to report.

And also self-confident. There would be no such thing as a duel duo, especially since the experience against the other finalists would be limited. Only three matches have been played against their rivals in London so far, the score stands at 1: 2. What interpret Krawietz and Mies in the direction that they can actually beat everyone here. The first purely German double, which is at the ATP Finals at the start. Philipp Petzschner has qualified in 2010 and 2011, before and after was in pair run break.

Three Grand Slam winners in the group

The conditions in the O2 Arena are consistently described as rather speedy, Krawietz and Mies see this as an advantage. The group is as strong as possible with the two Colombians Cabal / Farah and with Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut - after all, these three pairings have made all Grand Slam tournaments of the year among themselves. With Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, another duet of major references complements the ensemble.

It has been a little over a year since Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz won in Eckenthal at the local Challenger, in an atmosphere that would not have been dissimilar to the Davis Cup. How it will be in ten days, when Krawietz / Mies make their debut in Madrid, will prove itself. In any case, in London you can expect very well-filled grandstands in a very large hall. What the two Germans but rather fun than that it stresses them. Worse than the final in Roland Garros it can not come anyway - then it was against two Frenchmen. And that's known to be successful.
