Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies have missed the premature entry into the semi-finals at their first participation in the ATP Finals. The German French Open winners defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert / Nicolas Mahut from France 5: 7, 6: 7 (3: 7) in London on Wednesday evening in the second group match. If successful, the duo from Coburg and Cologne would have been the winners of the group "Max Mirny".

At the kick-off on Monday, they had won against Jean-Julien Rojer / Horia Tecau (Netherlands / Romania) after so-called match-tiebreak 7: 6 (7: 3), 4: 6, 10: 6. Now it is for Krawietz and Mies in their last group match against the so far winning world ranking list leaders Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah (Colombia), the reigning Wimbledon and US Open champions, for the entry into the knockout stages.

Mahut and Herbert with Career Grand Slam

Against Mahut and Herbert, who had triumphed at the Australian Open in January and have already won all four Grand Slam tournaments together, Krawietz / Mies started too hesitantly and were back in the first set early with a break. Although they managed once again to equalize 5: 5, the first set was still after 42 minutes to the opponents.

In the second set started Krawietz / Mies with a break, kept this lead into the final stages and then had but in the tiebreak. After 1:33 hours, the French made their entry into the semi-finals perfect.

After Jürgen Fassbender and Hans-Jürgen Pohmann in 1975, Krawietz (27) and Mies (29) are the second purely German doubles at the traditional end of year event. Together they won the title in Paris and the indoor tournaments in New York and Antwerp, at the US Open they reached the semi-finals. Davis Cup team boss Michael Kohlmann nominated the duo for the final tournament in Madrid (18 to 24 November).
