Are Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios also serving in Turin?

The fact that Novak Djokovic only found himself in seventh place in the world rankings published on Monday despite his recent triumph in Wimbledon caused heads to shake in the tennis scene. The ATP had withdrawn the status of world ranking relevance from the classic on Church Road after the exclusion of all Russian and Belarusian players, so Djokovic lost the 2000 points from his victory last year.

For Djokovic, however, the consequences of the drastic decision were limited despite his relapse in the rankings, as the Serb has only been playing for the really big trophies for quite some time. A positive side effect: The 35-year-old also has the best cards in the race for the ATP Finals in Turin after his seventh tournament victory on Church Road.

Djokovic must end year in top 20

The reason for this is a special rule of the ATP. This states that players who won at least one of the four Grand Slam tournaments over the course of the season only have to finish the year in the top 20 in order to be able to participate in the end-of-year finals of the eight best players. As the men's organization recently confirmed, this rule also applies to the 2022 Wimbledon tournament.

Djokovic, who is currently in tenth place in the race, can already plan an appearance in Turin. And that despite the fact that the 35-year-old threatens to miss all tournaments in the USA due to his lack of corona vaccination .

Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios, on the other hand, would still have to collect points diligently in the coming months in order to be able to start individually in the Italian metropolis. The Australian is currently only 37th in the race. In doubles, however, Kyrgios can have legitimate hopes of participating after winning the Australian Open with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
