The emotional state of the tennis fans in the hall of Turin was the same at the beginning of the second set between Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud as at the beginning of the third: namely in such a way that the Russian no longer took the victory and thus the entry into the semifinals of the ATP Finals 2021 leaves. But Ruud, who has already made a formidable comeback against Cameron Norrie, did not want to say goodbye without a greeting.

The level of the game was perhaps not of the highest quality, but there was no lack of tension. And drama: When Ruud's score was 5: 3 in the tie-break of the decision set, a Rublev ball dripped from the net tape into the field, but Ruud still got two match points. And finished a few moments later with an ace to 2: 6, 7: 5 and 7: 6 (5). It was Casper Ruud's first success in his fifth meeting with Andrey Rublev.

Djokovic in the evening against Norrie

Against Daniil Medvedev, who is waiting in the semi-finals on Saturday, Ruud has not yet won either. However, there have only been two encounters with the defending champion at the ATP Finals, the last one this summer on Mallorca.

In the second match of Group A on Friday evening from 9 p.m. (live on Sky and in our match tracker) Novak Djokovic will meet Cameron Norrie. As the group winner, the Serb is already qualified for the semi-finals and will meet Alexander Zverev there.
