Casper Ruud is in the final in Geneva

It looks like an extremely successful dress rehearsal for the French Open for the Norwegian clay court specialist Casper Ruud: The night of the world rankings easily reached the final of the ATP 250 event in Geneva on Friday afternoon. Against the service giant Reilly Opelka, it was a strong tie-break and a late break at the end of the second set that tipped the scales in favor of the Norwegian.

As expected, chances to break against the tall American were few and far between. Logical consequence: Round one had to be decided in a tie-break. In this Ruud increased the number of strokes and won the first set 7:2 in the short decision. In the second set, too, the 23-year-old showed better nerves towards the end of the set - Ruud made the preliminary decision with the break to 6:5. After exactly one and a half hours, the night of the world rankings finally fixed the 7: 6 (2) and 7: 5 success.

On Saturday Casper Ruud now has the chance to travel to the French Open with a title in his luggage. The 23-year-old is now waiting for the winner in the duel between Richard Gasquet and Jaoa Sousa. After reaching the semifinals in Rome, Ruud confirmed his good form in Geneva ahead of the highlight of the clay court season. In Paris, the eighth in the world rankings starts the race and could meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.
