Hurkacz had to play in the main field through the qualification and had no major problems with Marcel Granollers or Roberto Carballes Baena. Nor with Alex de Minaur and on Wednesday with Lucas Pouille.
Zverev, on the other hand, has given David Ferrer a reasonable dignity to retire, the German number one showed its best side after a difficult start, only gave up one game after the 1-4 in the first set.
Alexander Zverev has never played against Hubert Hurkacz. In 2016 there would have been an opportunity in Berlin, but at that time Zverev decided not to compete in the Davis Cup against Poland.
