ATP Mallorca: Haas, Lopez perform at the opening gala in favor of Ukraine aid

The second edition of the Mallorca Championships in Santa Ponça was opened with an opening gala on Friday evening! Around 350 guests followed the call of the Austrian Edwin Weindorfer, organizer of the ATP lawn tournament worth 951,745 euros and CEO of the e|motion group, and tournament director Toni Nadal to the Mallorca Country Club.

The evening opened with an attractive doubles show in which former world number two Tommy Haas (GER) and Spanish tennis legend Feliciano Lopez met Jaume Munar from Mallorca and Lucas Miedler from Austria. The "joyful quartet" did not skimp on spectacular rallies, in the end the two experienced players Haas and Lopez prevailed 6:3 in the game, which was played in one set. At the award ceremony that followed, there were no fewer than four ATP tournament directors on the pitch: Tommy Haas (Indian Wells), Feliciano Lopez (Madrid), Toni Nadal (Mallorca) and Edwin Weindorfer (Stuttgart)!

The show match and opening gala were all about a good cause! Proceeds from ticket sales, as well as donations raised throughout the evening, will benefit the Tennis Plays for Peace initiative, funded by the ATP in partnership with the WTA and the four Grand Slam tournaments in support of those affected by the war population in Ukraine was launched. The fundraiser as part of the Mallorca Championships will continue until the end of the tournament.

The prominent guests also included the chairman of the Mallorca Country Club and Superfund owner Christian Baha and his partner, the former world-class athlete Stephanie Graf, manager Andreas Renschler, society lady Shima Lehmann, Sandra Gago, model and wife of Feliciano Lopez, and the Ministers of Tourism Iago Negueruela (Balearic Islands) and Andreu Serra (Mallorca). The Stuttgart star restaurateur Michael Wilhelmer provided the culinary delights at the Opening Gala. Chris Jagger, the younger brother of Rolling Stone icon Mick Jagger, and the "Discover Band" with singer Maria Lacaria and DJ Jonitheas provided hot music rhythms.
