Jan-Lennard Struff only had a chance in the first set

The first edition of the ATP World Tour 250 event on Mallorca did not bring any match success for Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 45). The 31-year-old Warsteiner lost to Adrian Mannarino 6: 7 (3), 3: 6, who was three places ahead of him in the ATP ranking. The Frenchman increased it to 2-0 in direct duels against Struff. Mannarino is now the first touchstone for Dominic Thiem, who is number two behind Daniil Medvedev at the lawn event on the Balearic island.

Two Austrians in the double main field

The Austrian's round of 16 game will take place on Tuesday at the earliest. With Oliver Marach, a compatriot Thiems is also at the start in the double main field. And the Styrian is already in the quarter-finals with his partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi. The Austrian-Pakistani duo fought the Scandinavians Andre Goransson (Sweden) and Casper Ruud (Norway) 6: 7 (4), 6: 4 and 10: 8 in the match tie-break after losing the first set.

Austria's currently second best doubles player, Philipp Oswald, is also in action on Mallorca: The Vorarlberg resident will initially face the Dutch pairing Sander Trends and Matwe Middelkoop with his standard partner Marcus Daniell (New Zealand). Oswald / Daniell are seeded two at the Wimbledon preparatory tournament. German players are no longer in the competitions after Struff's defeat.
