Medvedev lost in the quarter-finals to five-ranked Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3 and 6-2 and thus inevitably ended his grass season.

At the Wimbledon tournament starting next week, all Russian and Belarusian players are excluded - including Medvedev.

Bautista Agut's victory is not unexpected: the Spaniard is a pro on grass, he was in the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2019 and won the tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch in 2015.

In the previous week in Halle, however, Medvedev had retained the upper hand over "RBA".

Earlier in the day, the tournament's number 2, Stefanos Tsitsipas, had progressed: he beat Marcos Giron 7: 6 (5), 4: 6 and 6: 3. The end came for Daniel Altmaier: He lost to Benjamin Bonzi 3: 6, 4: 6
