Dominic Thiem's first appearance on grass in 2021 could be a very exciting one: Because in round two of the ATP Tour 250 tournament on Mallorca there is a risk of a meeting with Jan-Lennard Struff. The German first has to play against Adrian Mannarino in round one, Thiem has a bye as does tournament favorite Daniil Medvedev. He in turn waits for the winner of the game between Lloyd Harris and Corentin Moutet.
The seeding list behind Medvedev and Thiem sees Roberto Bautista Agut at number three, followed by Pablo Carreno Busta. In the qualification draw there is only one German-speaking player, Matthias Bachinger.
As expected, Novak Djokovic does not appear in the 28 grid. The world number one wants to prepare specifically for Wimbledon at the Mallorca Championships. And only competes in doubles alongside Spaniard Carlos Gomez-Herrera. After all: Djokovic inaugurated the new Center Court in the Mallorca Country Club with a show match against Feliciano Lopez.
