Both players had fought their way through the qualification into the main field of the 250 event, so that at least brought twelve points to the safe side for the ATP world rankings. From Novak's point of view, it shouldn't be enough: after 83 minutes, Gerasimov, who had defeated Casper Ruud in round one at the Australian Open, went 7: 6 (3) and 6: 3 as the winner. Next Opponents are now waiting with David Goffin number three of the tournament.
Both players will be involved in the Davis Cup on March 6th and 7th, each as number one in their country: Absent from Dominic Thiem , Novak leads the Austrian selection in Premstätten against Uruguay, Gerasimov plays with Belarus in Düsseldorf against Germany.
