The path could not have been more difficult for the two individual players: After the effortless opening win against Adrian Mannarino and Gilles Simon, Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz grappled with Horacio Zeballos and Robert Farah, who were in first place in the round of 16. The Canadian and his Polish partner John Peers and Michael Venus, listed at number four, then threw them out of the tableau. In the semifinals, the next surprise followed - with the 6: 2, 1: 6 and 10: 5 against Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.

In the final it was even tighter - Auger-Aliassime and Hurkacz had to fend off a match ball from their opponents in the tie-break of the second set. After 112 minutes of play, the surprise success was certain. Félix Auger-Aliassime does not have much time to celebrate: the youngster will be entered as number two in the grid of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Sofia next week.
