Marterer was unable to compete against Milos Raonic at all. On lap one, the Franke, who trained at the tennis base in Oberhaching, beat Taylor Fritz from the USA in three sets.

Mischa Zverev, on the other hand, had fought eight match balls against Nicola Kuhn, benefiting in the third set from the task of the German-Spaniard. Against Nikoloz Basilashvili, the older of the Zverev brothers was 3: 6, 2: 6 after only 66 minutes but had no chance.

After Jan-Lennard Struff and Peter Gojowczyk, two other German players had already failed in round one, only Alexander Zverev remains as the last hope. Last year's finalist played against oldie David Ferrer on Saturday for the third round.
