What initially looked like a walk through for the eleven-time tournament winner has developed into a very entertaining match.
Nadal breached early, thanks also to Dimitrov's double fault, and appeared to be world number 28. with his tried and tested "Always-beautiful-with-a-lot-spin-on-the-one-handed-backhand" tactic. Then Dimitrov gets some spectacular points and the rebreak. Nadal did not give up and made the 6: 4 set win clear.
In round two, the Spaniard quickly took the 3: 0 lead, which this time he couldn't let go and made the decision with another break to 5: 1.
In the quarterfinals, defending champion Nadal now meets Guido Pella.
