Trying out new forms of play has been en vogue on the ATP tour for a few years, best seen at the #NextGen Masters in Milan, where players have to deal with towel racks and short sentences without a net charge and line judge. In the run-up to the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo, another one was added - in a team competition with the two captains Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka.

A match tie-break was played on the Rainier III court, but with constantly changing line-ups. And also with two points, which were played in two-on-one mode. Stefanos Tsitsipas (Team Thiem) and Daniil Medvedev (Team Wawrinka) were only allowed to play a point with links - and in the final exchange of blows David Goffin and Karen Khachanov were prohibited from playing the backhand with both hands. The Belgian secured Team Wawrinka's 10: 7 victory.

For the Swiss, the seriousness of tournament life starts on Sunday: Wawrinka meets Lucas Pouille. At the charity event on Saturday he was still in the team of the triple major champion.
