Nick Kyrgios is in the second round of Montreal after a two-set win over Sebastian Baez

There is apparently no stopping Nick Kyrgios at the moment: The Australian, who celebrated his seventh tournament win of his career at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Washington last week, also got off to a good start at the Masters event in Montreal. After 1:25 hours, the 27-year-old left Court Central as the winner against Argentinian Sebastian Baez with 6: 4, 6: 4. The next challenge for the man from Canberra will be much more demanding, after all it is against the world number one Daniil Medvedev from Russia, who had a bye available in round one.

Denis Shapovalov was eliminated right at the start. The local hero couldn't stop the free fall he's been in since May of this year at his home tournament either and was eliminated 5:7, 6:7 (4) against Alex de Minaur. The Australian's next opponent is Grigor Dimitrov, who knocked out Canadian wildcard Alexis Galrneau 6-4, 7-5.

Hurkacz first round of 16

Andy Murray also started the main draw with a wildcard, but suffered a clear defeat against Taylor Fritz from tenth right at the start. The 1: 6, 3: 6 against the American is the second defeat in a row for the Scotsman, who, according to his own statements, has not yet come to terms with the conditions on the American continent. Fritz now meets his compatriot Frances Tiafoe.

The only round of 16 in Montreal so far is Pole Hubert Hurkacz, who defeated Wawrinka conqueror Emil Ruusuvuori 6:3, 6:7 (4) and 6:2. Possible opponents in the round of 16 are Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, who is up to twelve, or Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Here the individual tableau from Montreal.
