Alexander Zverev (ATP 3) faces the task in Munich today of stopping the meteoric rise of opponent Cristian Garin (ATP 47). For the man from Santiago de Chile, it has been going almost seamlessly in 2019 so far. The 22-year-old is currently experiencing a historic form high. This year Garin has already won an ATP tournament (in Houston) and was also once in the final (in Sao Paulo). Victories against top 50 players have recently been lined up like a string of pearls. Whether Denis Shapovalov, Martin Klizan, Jeremy Chardy or most recently in Munich in the round of 16 Diego Schwartzman: All of these top players were inferior to the 1.85 meter tall Chilean.

It remains to be seen whether Garin will succeed the next sensational coup in the quarter-finals in Munich against Zverev. In any case, Zverev once again shows its strong side in the Bavarian capital. The German number one not only seems relaxed, but the winner of the two previous Munich tournaments also let his world class shimmer through in his opening game at 7: 5, 6: 1 on the center court against Juan Ignacio Londero. The match against Garin, on the other hand, is completely new territory for Zverev, they have never met before.

When the first duel will actually take place on the MTTC Iphitos Munich is open. Because it's been raining heavily in Munich since Thursday evening. And Friday promises little improvement in this regard, at least until the afternoon.
