For Fabio Fognini, 2020 will continue to be modest in terms of sport, especially after the long Corona break, during which the Italian had two operations on his ankles. Fognini has only won one match since the game was resumed, in Hamburg against Philipp Kohlschreiber. On the other hand, there are four defeats: In Kitzbühel in the comeback against Marc-Andrea Huesler, in Rome against Ugo Humbert, in Hamburg against Casper Ruud and most recently at the French Open against Mikhail Kukushkin.

In the current week, the 33-year-old Fognini wanted to go to first place in the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Sardinia. However, nothing will come of this after a positive test for COVID-19. Fognini had to be taken out of the field and was replaced by Lucky Loser Danilo Petrovic. In doubles, Fognini had played alongside Lorenzo Musetti on Tuesday, but lost to Lorenzo Sonego and Andrea Vavassori 7: 6 (3), 6: 7 (5) and 13:15.

Fognini is the second prominent positive COVID-19 case in the past few days. Belgium's number one, David Goffin, had also announced a positive test result.
