After the rain in Washington turned into a spoilsport late Thursday evening, Friday in the US capital mutated into a big day of fighting. Accordingly, for example, Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios and Andrey Rublev had to work early to bring their round of 16 games to an end.
Kyrgios, who had already won the first set against Reilly Opelka before the onset of precipitation, quickly made things clear with an early break after the continuation. Ultimately, the Australian prevailed 7: 6 (1) and 6: 2. He will meet Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals, which will also take place on Friday (local time).
Rublev, who was seeded in first place and did not play a single point on Thursday, defeated the American Maxime Cressy, who served well, 6: 4 and 7: 6 (8). In the round of eight he faces JJWolf, who knocked out Holger Rune in three sets.
