The tournament victory in Marseille was not absolutely necessary, but Daniil Medvedev was still happy to take it with him with the final victory against Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Sunday. After all, as number two in the world you also have a certain responsibility. Especially since Medvedev is breaking a phalanx with his new career high: Since the summer of 2005, the Russian has been the first player among the best two professionals in the world who is not Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer , Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray .

However, Novak Djokovic is still in the lead. The Serb has now held the top position for 312 weeks, a replacement is not in sight, especially not under the circumstances under which points scored in 2019 will still be carried forward. Nadal follows in third place in front of Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas .

Djokovic and Medvedev also in front in the "Race"

There were no massive improvements in the past week, in which only three ATP Tour 250 events were held. Santiago winner Cristian Garin climbed two places to 20th, Nikoloz Basilashvili , who won in Doha, made up six places and is currently 36th. For Pierre-Hugues Herbert, the final in Marseille was worth it, he jumped from 93rd position on 73.

The status in the Race to Turin is not particularly meaningful, after all, only a major has been played and not yet an ATP Masters 1000 tournament. But now, in addition to Djokovic and Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini , Aslan Karatsev , Marton Fucsovics and Diego Schwartzman have a ticket for the ATP finals in their pockets.
