There was still a hurdle to be overcome for Barbara Haas to move into the main field of a major for the second time in her career. With the 22-year-old Greet Minnen, the Upper Austrian got number 13 on the qualification seed list. In the fifth game of the first set, it was the Belgian who found the first breakballs - and knew how to use them. Another break for 5: 2 should be enough for Minnen, who served a little later for 6: 2.

For Barbara Haas, the start of the second set was anything but as desired. The 23-year-old suffered a break in her first service game. Unlike in set one, Haas now found some chances when serving minnes, but left 0:40 among other things and was consequently quickly 1: 3 behind in set two. In this phase there would have been a few chances for the Austrian, but in the end there was a little lack of determination in some rallies. The bitter consequence: Barbara Haas had to give up her serve again and Greet Minnen won 5: 1 and was only one game away from the main draw of the Australian Open. Another break sealed the (too) clear final score of 2: 6 and 1: 6 in favor of the Belgian.

For Barbara Haas, the Australian Open adventure ends in the last round of qualification. The Austrian can no longer hope for a place among the lucky losers. The peloton starts at the Australian Open on Monday, and 22-year-old Greet Minnen will also be there after today's success.

But there is better news from the men: Dennis Novak also won his last qualifying match and is in the main field of the Australian Open.
