Haas was defeated by the young Colombian Maria Camila Osorio Serrano - number 186 in the world rankings - in an intense game with 3: 6, 6: 3, 5: 7. The Upper Austrian tried hard to keep the pace high and dictate the point in the rallies.

When serving, she had a weak day, eleven double faults and only 58 percent won rallies after the first serve. The current number 149 was accompanied for the first time by ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer as a trainer in Dubai, where the qualification for the Australian Open women takes place.

For Ofner it was over sooner in Doha. The Styrian lost to Borna Gojo from Croatia after 85 minutes 3: 6, 2: 6. Gojo served 13 aces, converting four out of nine break chances. After Wimbledon 2017 Ofner has to wait for his second career appearance in a Grand Slam.

Later on Sunday, Jurij Rodionov (against Viktor Troicki) and Julia Grabher (against Na-Lae Han) are also in action.
