Pat Cash is currently really happy that he also has a US passport. And that he has one of several places of residence in London. Because the situation in his home country Australia was described by the 1987 Wimbledon champion on the sidelines of the ATP challenger in Ismaning as not exactly rosy. Melbourne has been in lockdown for six months and that is a crime against humanity, Cash said.

Nevertheless, Tennis Australia does not want to miss the Australian Open and the ATP Cup beforehand. And for the players also during the mandatory 14-day quarantine (Pat Cash also has a firm opinion on this: Why so long? There are tests that can be evaluated much faster.) Create opportunities to train. The adaptability of the players is therefore in demand again. And no one in New York City has adapted better to the circumstances under similar circumstances than the US Open winner Dominic Thiem.

Thiem only briefly looked after by Muster

This should also continue in Australia, as father Wolfgang Thiem revealed in the tennisnet podcast "Quiet, please". A departure to Australia is planned on December 14th, before that Austria's number one has two weeks to recover from the efforts of the season, which will also lead to the 2020 ATP finals in London.

Less than a year ago the situation was very different. Although there was already bad news from Australia, the major local fires only affected some parts of the country, the ATP Cup and the Australian Open remained basically unaffected. The current situation raises a few additional questions, especially with regard to the ATP team competition introduced at the beginning of 2020: If legends such as Boris Becker, Thomas Muster or Marat Safin were team bosses at the premiere, it is hardly imaginable that they would Ex-superstars go through the hassle of a two-week quarantine just to sit in the player box for a few days. In addition, Dominic Thiem's collaboration with Thomas Muster turned out to be really short after the ATP Cup.

So maybe there is a changing team leadership like with the French, where Gilles Simon, Gael Monfils and Co. simply coached themselves. Or the coaches of the individual players take over, that was already the case in some teams at the beginning of the year. But whoever takes his place in the spacious lounges will not be able to avoid an early arrival à la Dominic Thiem.
