Dominic Thiem misses no opportunity these days to stand on the pitch. After the "Thiem's 7", the Austrian started at the first event of bett1aces, where he could also win the title with a sheer final victory over Matteo Berrettini. Now Thiem is also starting at the second event of the Berlin show tournament at Tempelhof Airport. With Tommy Haas, he got an extremely interesting opponent drawn in the semifinals.

Haas had returned from the tennis board especially for the exhibition events in Berlin and was already performing well in the Steffi Graf stadium - and even delivered a sensation yesterday with his victory over Jan-Lennard Struff. The start against world number three, Dominic Thiem, went quite well for Tommy Haas. The German had to accept an early break - but he was able to equalize it immediately and keep his serve confidently in the continuation of the first set.

Haas awards two set balls

At 4: 3 for Haas, he even had the opportunity to break, came to a 0:30 after slight mistakes by Dominic Thiem. Then the third place in the world ranking increased, played out of this pressure situation and was able to compensate. The first set balls were still found by Tommy Haas, the outsider came to a 40:15 at the score of 6: 5 - Thiem was able to fend off with two very fine long-line balls.

So a tie-break had to make the decision. In this, the third in the world rankings took over and was the much more active player on the pitch. With 7: 6 (4) the big favorite was consequently able to put on 1-0 sets. Tommy Haas put this away well and found a breakball in the first game of the second round, but the 42-year-old gave it lightly.

The next break chances in this second set were then on the side of Dominic Thiem, who benefited from Haas' lack of concentration and was able to use the first break ball for 3-1. That was the preliminary decision in this game, Tommy Haas could no longer oppose his 16 year younger opponent and ultimately had to surrender 7: 6 (4) and 6: 3.

In the final against Sinner

Dominic Thiem will play tomorrow's Sunday final against Jannik Sinner, whom he defeated a few days ago at the event in the Steffi Graf stadium. The Italian had surprisingly defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the first semi-final. The match is available in our live ticker and live on ServusTV.
