Davis Cup: Alexander Zverev puts Germany 2-0 against Hungary

German number one Alexander Zverev did not make it particularly exciting: the ATP world champion defeated Hungary's Peter Nagy in the first round duel of the Davis Cup and gave Michael Kohlmann's team a 2-0 lead.

Zverev had to wait longer than expected - Philipp Kohlschreiber had unexpectedly big problems with Zsombor Piros. Zverev, on the other hand, was superior to Peter Nagy in all respects, winning in the end after 70 minutes of play with 6: 2 and 6: 2.

Now it is up to Jan-Lennard Struff and Tim Pütz to make it clear that the German team entered the final round of the reformed Davis Cup in doubles. It will be played in Madrid from 2019, but the date in late November has the catch that several top players have already announced that they will not take part in the 18-nation tournament. Among them Alexander Zverev, who emphasized again in Frankfurt that due to the appointment, an appearance in Madrid was out of the question for him.

Whether the German fans will see Zverev again on Saturday will only become clear at short notice: If Pütz and Struff win the double, Davis Cup boss Michael Kohlmann could fall back on Peter Gojowczyk for the third individual and the Dachauer a match in front of their home crowd grant.
