Austria has announced its team for the Davis Cup final tournament in Innsbruck. Dennis Novak , Jurij Rodionov,Gerald Melzer , Oliver Marach and Philipp Oswald will be there .

Team captain Stefan Koubek announced this on Friday in an ÖTV broadcast. The big absentee in the Austrian team is of course Dominic Thiem, who had to end the 2021 season early after a wrist injury that the Austrian sustained during a preparatory tournament at Wimbledon. The Lichtenwörther is currently working on his comeback.
Number one in the Austrian team is Dennis Novak from Lower Austria, who recently had to convince several times in the Austrian jersey. Last year in the last international match, the 28-year-old laid the foundation for the team's success with two individual victories against Uruguay. "In the Davis Cup he always surpasses himself, gets the best out of himself - for example in Russia, in Finland or in Premstätten against Uruguay, when we were able to secure participation in the final tournament with a 3-1 win," Koubek is quoted as saying.
Melzer instead of misolic
Gerald Melzer is also in good shape, having reached five quarter-finals in a row on the Challenger Tour in his personal South America tour. One of the reasons for the nomination, as Koubek confirms: "Gerald has earned his place in the team. He is in a really good mood again and has built up self-confidence," emphasizes Koubek.
Jurij Rodionov will go to work as number two for the Austrians, who this year could not build on the strong performances of the previous season. Nonetheless, the native of Nuremberg is said to be "logically included in terms of the ranking," explained the team boss. Filip Misolic and Lukas Neumayer are only there on call. Together with Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler they form the replacement quartet.
