Daniel Altmaier is about to make his Davis Cup debut

Since the Australian Open, the 32-year-old has been complaining of pain in his playing arm, which makes it impossible to play. The symptoms are due to inflammation of the biceps tendon, as an MRI scan has now confirmed.

Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann nominated Daniel Altmaier for Struff. The 24-year-old will be at the Davis Cup for the first time and will strengthen the team around Alexander Zverev, Oscar Otte, Tim Pütz and Andreas Mies against Switzerland.

“Despite his long journey from the USA, Daniel immediately agreed to step in. He was on the verge of being part of the team several times over the past year. Even if I would have wished for other circumstances for his debut, I'm happy that he's here now," says Kohlmann. "Daniel played well again in South America at the end of 2022, fought his way back into the top 100 and also showed a good match in Melbourne against Frances Tiafoe. I'm sure he can help us against Switzerland," said Kohlmann.

Regarding Struff's cancellation due to injury, Kohlmann says: "Of course, Jan-Lennard's absence weighs heavily because he is an absolute team player and we could always rely on him and his victories, especially in the Davis Cup."
