It's good to know that there is already a lot of joy when playing in the Davis Cup: when Alexander Peya took a seat in a box at the SalzburgArena on Friday shortly after eleven, he was greeted warmly by his colleagues. Philipp Oswald and Gerald Melzer just gave the sparring pairing for the Austrian double that will try to score on Saturday: Jürgen Melzer and Oliver Marach.

The latter continued to exchange ideas with Peya even longer after the training session, double aces among themselves, who competed in the end of November at the London O2 Arena. Alexander Peya, however, cannot intervene actively this time, the operated elbow demands a break.

Thiem is not expected in Salzburg

Dominic Thiem, on the other hand, is doing his work on the tennis court again. Thiem completed a loose punch training session of around an hour on Thursday and, according to coach Günter Bresnik, is feeling much better again. Most recently, the Lower Austrian had to give up against Alexei Popyrin in round two at the Australian Open, and Thiem made a bad impression at the start against Benoit Paire.

The 25 year old Lower Austrian is not expected in Salzburg. With debutante Jurij Rodionov and Thiem buddy Dennis Novak, the Austrians can use any support - but for Dominic Thiem it is primarily about getting in shape for the South America tour.

Thiem is expected in Buenos Aires from February 11th, there even to defend the title. After that the appearance in Rio de Janeiro will follow, Austria's number one has already entered the list of winners there.
