After the early end of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Doha, a start in Sydney might have been an option for Dominic Thiem to gather practice before the Australian Open. The Austrian has waived.

Stefanos Tsitsipas tops the seed list for the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Sydney ahead of Daniil Medvedev. Dominic Thiem is not represented in the tableau, which comes as only a little surprise, as the Austrian number one had not named it for the ATP Tour 250 tournament. After the early departure from Doha against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, however, competing in the Olympic city of 2000 would have been a good way to gather before the Australian Open match practice.

Father Wolfgang Thiem had told tennisnet.com a day ago that Dominic would stick to the original tournament schedule.

Good experiences for Thiem 2018

After the training camp on Tenerife, Thiem had competed at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi, and even had a third match at the exhibition competition there after Rafael Nadal's short-term withdrawal. That he lost to Karen Khachanov.

Dominic Thiem had good experiences with tournament participation in the week before Grand Slam events last year: the Lower Austrian won the title in Lyon and then stormed into the finals at the French Open.
