Dominic Thiem will serve in Mallorca

After his first round at the French Open, Dominic Thiem left the time for his return to the tour open, but a few days later it is now clear where and when the world number four will play his next tournament. As the Kronen Zeitung reports , Thiem will serve at the ATP 250 lawn event in Mallorca (June 20 to 26).

Thus, the Austrian wants to gather match practice immediately before the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon, which starts on June 28th. A look at the entry list suggests that this endeavor should not be too easy: Pablo Carreno Busta, Casper Ruud, Karen Khachanov and Nick Kyrgios will also play on the largest island in the Balearic Group.

Thiem: "I need matches"

In addition, Thiem's last victory on grass dates back to 2018, when he defeated Mikhail Youzhny in the first round of the ATP 500 event in Halle in two sets. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is looking forward to the challenge: "I need matches and am happy that I can push Mallorca in at short notice."

In the next few weeks, Thiem, who resumed training on Thursday in his father's academy ("He doesn't play bad, but you can see that we have to refine all strokes"), will have to spend many hours on the field to spend. Coach Nicolas Massu will not be helping the reigning US Open Champion for the time being - the 41-year-old is currently in his home country of Chile and will only join "Team Thiem" again in Mallorca.
