“We want to make tennis a new experience for even more fans and have therefore taken this step in order to be able to present this exciting sport in the heart of the city. In addition to the location of the Wiener Stadthalle , we have set up our second match court here on the square of the Vienna Ice Skating Club. This new location is an absolute highlight that has never been seen in this form on the ATP tour and is therefore a world first, "explained tournament director Herwig Straka on the occasion of the opening of the tennis tent on Wednesday, which also included District Mayor Erich Hohenberger , WEV- President Thomas Meixner and Michael Tojner , majority owner and chairman of the supervisory board of VARTA AG, attended.

Open days with free admission on October 21st and 22nd

The concept of Tennis 2 Go! Is also completely new! Two hours of tennis enjoyment are available from just 10 euros - both for training the stars and for the matches! "During the 10 o'clock or lunch break, after office hours or with friends just in between - action is guaranteed all day long with Tennis 2 Go!", Says Straka

Tickets for Tennis 2 Go are available on site. Another new feature of this concept is that the duration of the visit can be selected individually - so if you want to stay longer than two hours, you can do so for an extra charge! The court on the square of the Vienna Ice Skating Club on Heumarkt will seat more than 1,200 spectators. In order to be able to gather first impressions, there will be two open days on Thursday and Friday (until 4 p.m.) this week, where visitors can get a taste of tennis with free admission

Season start also at the Vienna Ice Skating Club

At the same time as Tennis 2 Go, the Vienna Ice Skating Club, which made this exciting project possible, will start a new season on October 23rd. Ice skating enthusiasts can do their laps again until March 2022. For a week, until October 29, there will be ice skating and tennis playing on the 6,000 square meter square. “We are very pleased that an event of this magnitude is being held here at the Vienna Ice Skating Club. Ice skating and world class tennis take place at the same time in one venue. A unique experience in the world that will hopefully attract many visitors, ”said WEV President Thomas Meixner.

New cultural and sporting events set the course for the future at Vienna's Heumarkt

“Tennis 2 Go is an excellent concept to get children and young people excited about tennis. That is also the philosophy of VARTA, which has been involved in youth sports for many years - as a partner of the Austrian Tennis Association, but also in football, among other things with sponsorship of the international SK Rapid U15 youth tournament and the annual VARTA Cup in Haag. As a passionate tennis player, I am of course delighted that the Erste Bank Open is here at Heumarkt for the first time, ”emphasized Michael Tojner, majority owner and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VARTA AG.

The upcoming events show what potential the Heumarkt area has and how it can be animated all year round in addition to traditional ice sports. “Sport, music and hospitality have defined this area for more than a century. In addition to the Viennese cultural assets ice skating club, concert hall and the Hotel InterContinental, the large square will be a freely accessible meeting point and adventure space, but also a place for cultural and sporting events. We want to help make the Grätzel even more livable, ”said Tojner, who handed over the first 500 tickets for Tennis 2 Go, sponsored by VARTA, to District Chairman Erich Hohenberger.

“The district is making the 500 tickets available to those people who have achieved extraordinary things in the past year and a half. With this campaign we would like to thank the doctors, the nursing staff and all hospital employees of the Rudolf Foundation, the Herz-Jesu Hospital and the Franziskus Hospital for their tireless efforts and commitment. After the beach volleyball championship, we now have the next great sporting event in our beautiful 3rd district! The concept of bringing young people to sport is great and especially important in times like these. On behalf of everyone who made this event possible, I would like to thank Herwig Straka and Michael Tojner! ”Said Erich Hohenberger.
