The youngest player on the French Open tableau actually made it into the last four at the 2022 French Open. Cori Gauff, only 18 years old, beat her American compatriot Sloane Stephens 7: 5 and 6: 2 and is thus in the semi-finals of one of the four majors for the first time. There Gauff meets Martina Trevisan on Thursday. The Italian defeated Leylah Fernandez in three sets in the first match of the day.

Gauff quickly took the lead in both rounds, but let Stephens back into the match each time. The teenager served for the first time in the second act at 5: 2, but made two double mistakes at 30: 0. Gauff got the win in the subsequent game with a break. Stephens bravely fended off the first match point, but after 90 minutes of play a volley from the 2017 US Open winner sailed out.
