Bianca Andreescu had to say goodbye in the first lap

The preparation for the French Open could not have gone much worse for Bianca Andreescu : Most recently, she was unable to play her quarter-finals in Strasbourg due to a small tear in the abdominal muscles, previously she had canceled the tournaments in Madrid and Rome due to a coronavirus infection.

The lack of match practice was clearly noticeable in the 2019 US Open winner in the first round of the French Open. Andreescu served with a score of 5: 4 in the third set against the world ranking 85. Tamara Zidansek already won the match, but after 3:20 hours it was the Slovenian who left the place as 6: 7 (1), 7: 6 (2) and 9: 7.

While the world number seven had to pack their bags after the first round, last year's finalist is in the second round. Sofia Kenin beat former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in a hard-fought game 6: 4, 4: 6 and 6: 2. The number four of the tournament now meets compatriot Hailey Baptiste.

The Swiss Belinda Bencic is also one lap further. The 24-year-old defeated Nadia Podoroska, who reached the semi-finals at the Bois de Boulogne last year, surprisingly smoothly 6-0 and 6-3. Defending champion Iga Swiatek had already bought her second round ticket in the early afternoon.
