Barbora Krejcikova prevailed against Cori Gauff in the quarterfinals

"Anyone who does not take advantage of their chances will be punished for it," is one of the oldest pieces of wisdom in sports history. On June 9, 2021, the next and now youngest example of the raison d'être of this saying should be in the Stade Roland Garros.

This is exactly what happened to Cori Gauff in the first round of her quarter-final game against Barbora Krejcikova . The 17-year-old quickly led 3: 0, then 5: 3 and even found five set balls in total, but her opponent should win the opening set: The Czech used the tie-break - how could it have been otherwise - her first opportunity.

Semi-final against Swiatek or Sakkari

The American should not recover from this deficit in the course of the encounter. Krejcikova won the first five games of the second set and could not take the clear 5-0 lead despite a never giving up Gauff: After 1:50 hours of play, the 25-year-old used her sixth match point to 7: 6 (6) and 6: 3 success.

Thus, the world number 33 is in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her individual career. In this she will meet defending champion Iga Swiatek or Maria Sakkari on Thursday. The semi-finals of the lower half will be contested by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Tamara Zidansek.
