Ashleigh Barty had to retire on lap two

Already in her opening encounter against Bernarda Pera, world number one Ashleigh Barty had to struggle with problems on her left hip, in the second round game against Magda Linette the pain for the Australian was obviously too strong: The 25-year-old gave up with a score of 1: 6 and 2: 2 up.

After Barty had delivered the first sentence, she took a long break in treatment in the catacombs of Court Philippe-Chatrier. This initially seemed to have an effect, but after four games in the second round, the 2019 French Open winner ended the second Grand Slam tournament of the year prematurely. Linette now meets Ons Jabeur.

Sofia Kenin and Elina Svitolina fared better than Barty. The American defeated Hailey Baptiste 7: 5 and 6: 3, the Ukrainian beat Ann Li 6: 0 and 6: 4. Are also one lap further.
