Nothing will come of the long-awaited 24th Grand Slam title for the great Serena Williams at the French Open 2021. The American had to acknowledge on Sunday afternoon that Ellena Rybakina should face a strong opponent. The 21-year-old Kazakh kickstarted the encounter with the 23-time Grand Slam winner and quickly moved away to 4: 1.

Rybakina couldn’t miss that, the first set went to the Kazakh at 6: 3. Which initially gave the impression of being able to finish this game quickly in the second round. The 21-year-old made the early break to 1-0, but had to accept the rebreak immediately. Same game in the middle of the second set: Again Rybakina managed a break that her opponent was able to equalize immediately.

Rybakina now against Pavlyuchenkova

At the score of 5: 5 Rybakina, who had previously served extremely confidently against the loss of the set, managed another break. And that should be enough now. After a good hour and 15 minutes, the Kazakh served to 6: 3 and 7: 5 success.

In the quarter-finals Elena Rybakina will now meet the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who won her round of 16 duel with Victoria Azarenka in three sets.
