Elina Svitolina also has to fit for the French Open in Paris

Unfortunately, you had to expect it, now it is also a sad certainty: Elina Svitolina will not take part in the French Open. The Ukrainian and Gael Monfils' spouse had herself removed from the entry list for the clay court Grand Slam event in the French capital on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old had already announced a longer break on Instagram at the end of March. "Unfortunately, I have to announce that I [..] will miss some of my favorite tournaments in Europe. But I'm sure I'll see you again soon. I thank everyone for their support during this difficult time," Svitolina said at the time hear from the social media platform.

This was followed by tournament cancellations for Stuttgart, Madrid and most recently also for Rome. Comebacker Monica Puig benefits from the Slawin's withdrawal. The Puerto Rican moves up into the main draw and thus saves herself the tedious qualification process of the second major event of the year.
