Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has to end her 2022 season

Last year's finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had to cancel her participation in the French Open due to injury. The 30-year-old Russian has been suffering from a long-term knee problem that has now forced her to skip the clay-court highlight from May 22 to June 5 and end her season early. "I have decided to take more time and come back stronger next year," Pavlyuchenkova wrote on Instagram.

Pavlyuchenkova had already taken a break after the Australian Open in January, where the Russian failed in the third round, and had recently returned to the WTA tour on sand with little success. At the two WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome, the 30-year-old started with a defeat. Pavlyuchenkova only managed to win one set against Sara Sorribes Tormo and Leylha Fernandez.

Vondrousova and Svitolina are also absent

Czech Republic's Marketa Vondrousova, finalist in Paris 2019 and silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, will also miss Roland Garros due to wrist surgery. In addition, Elina Svitolina has also canceled her start at the Bois de Bolougne for women, but the Ukrainian announced a few days ago that she was expecting a daughter with her husband Gael Monfils.

The favorite for the second Grand Slam of the year is undoubtedly Iga Swiatek, who after winning the title in Rome has not been defeated for 28 matches. Most recently, the Pole won five tournaments in a row, four of them at WTA 1000 level. At the French Open, Swiatek is reaching for her second Grand Slam title, in 2020 the world number one won her first major title in Paris.
