The two doubles Mattek-Sands / Swiatek and Mertens / Hsieh fought each other for over three hours in the third round of the double competition at the French Open. With the better end for the Polish-American duo, which should have the upper hand in the end with 5: 7, 6: 4 and 7: 5.

In the third round it had already looked as if the number one seeded Mertens / Hsieh would win the duel, already leading 5: 1. And they had a total of seven match points to get their quarter-final ticket. Seven match balls, all of which Swiatek / Mattek-Sands managed to thwart.

Swiatek in the individual to defend the title

Swiatek's main focus will still be on the individual competition, where the Polish woman sensationally won the title last year without losing a set. The three-hour additional load could be a stumbling block, however, as the 20-year-old has to contest her round of 16 duel with Marta Kostyuk tomorrow.
